How to make the end of the year less stressful.

We all know the end of the year can be stressful, especially for business owners. While it can be a busy time with people shopping for the holidays, the slow months and tax season are just around the corner. So how can you enjoy the holidays, increase in customers, and the beginning of the slow season?

Winter stress

The first thing I always recommend is to get help! Stressed about your taxes? Meet with a CPA or tax preparer to plan, so you know what to expect in the coming months. Worried about paying your bills in your upcoming slowest months of the year? Meet with a financial planner/advisor/coach to do some projections and planning and get financial help before you need it. Overworked during the holidays? Meet with a temp agency to see about part-time holiday help without the stress of running payroll yourself.

The next thing I think is important is finding a way to relax and de-stress.  Many of the parts of running a business will always be stressful, no matter how much help you have.  So the only way you can relax is to find a way not to think and worry about your business, even if it’s just for a brief period.  Getting outdoors and listening to music, podcasts, or audiobooks can help.  Coffee with a friend can take your mind off work.  Or spend time with your family playing games.  Find what makes you happy and forces you to not think about work.

Lastly, have some fun!  If this is a busy time of year for you, enjoy your customers and clients.  Make your business a happy place for everyone to be.  If this is a slow time of year, take some time off.  Spend some time with family and friends, take time for your hobbies that you haven’t had time for, or sleep in and drink coffee in bed while reading a new book!

No matter what you, try to find some time each day to relax.  It may take some time to discover what type of relaxation works for you, so don’t expect miracles right away.
